The MC's orchestrate the event, building the energy, explaining the concept, engaging with the poets, judges, DJ and the crowd. It's their job to cultivate a space where performers can shine, and the crowd are highly engaged and entertained

The expert judges are seasoned performers who are highly regarded as being leading voices in thier field, be it spoken word poetry, rap, freestyle. It's their job to encourage the Poets, as they sought to 'out encourgae' one another.

The DJ is synonymous with the hip hop and gospel culture, and plays a big part in building the energy and creating the vibes. The DJ is a co-host in their own right, they not only play 'walk on tracks' (think ring walks for boxers), but interact with the performers, the MC's and the audience with stingers and SFX. In both years we were priviliged to have international Gospel DJ, 'DJ Shunz' on the decks.

Now the building blocks are in place, we invite the Spoken Word Poets to go head-to-head in 'out encouraging' each other. They have 45 seconds to bless the socks off us and their 'opponent'.

The Bless Offs is structured into three rounds and relies on the audience to choose who goes through to the next round with yellow or red cards, that correspond to their favoured poet.Â
